What Is an Affiliate Tag?
An affiliate tag is a commerce tracking identifier added to an outbound product URL. On links associated with Amazon Associates, it is commonly called an Amazon tag. The tag helps identify which publisher or website referred a visitor to the product page.
On WheelInterchange.com, an affiliate tag may appear on a link to a wheel, tire, hub ring, spacer, lug nut, or other fitment-related product. It is part of the link’s tracking information–not a wheel specification and not a vehicle compatibility requirement.
How an Affiliate Tag Works
When a visitor follows a tagged product link, the retailer can use the identifier to attribute the referral to the publisher. The tag may appear as a parameter in the URL, such as:
?tag=example-20
The exact format depends on the affiliate program. It may be combined with other URL parameters used to identify the product, campaign, or referral session.
An affiliate tag does not change the product itself. It does not alter a wheel’s bolt pattern / PCD, center bore, offset, wheel width, diameter, tire size, or hardware requirements. It also does not make a product compatible with a vehicle.
Why It Matters on a Wheel-Fitment Site
Wheel and tire products must still be evaluated using their actual fitment information. A tagged link may lead to a potentially useful product, but the link alone does not establish a fitment outcome such as Direct Fit, Fits With Hub Rings, Fits With Spacer, or Adapter Required.
Before buying a linked product, verify the relevant dimensions and installation conditions, including:
- The vehicle’s bolt pattern / PCD and the wheel’s bolt pattern
- Vehicle hub diameter and wheel center bore
- Wheel diameter, width, and offset
- Brake and suspension clearance
- Lug-seat type, thread specifications, and required hardware
- Tire size and the vehicle’s available clearance
For example, an affiliate link to a hub-centric ring does not prove that the ring is the correct size. A ring must match both interfaces: the wheel’s center bore and the vehicle hub. A wheel with a 67.1 mm center bore on a vehicle with a 64.1 mm hub may use a 67.1 → 64.1 mm ring, but the dimensions must be confirmed before purchase.
Affiliate Tag vs. Product or Fitment Identifier
An affiliate tag is associated with the referral source. It is different from identifiers used to describe the product, such as a manufacturer part number, stock-keeping unit, wheel casting number, tire size, or vehicle fitment listing.
It is also different from a vehicle or wheel’s technical specifications:
- A bolt pattern / PCD describes the wheel’s mounting-hole layout.
- A center bore describes the central opening in the wheel.
- Offset describes the wheel’s mounting-face position relative to its centerline.
- An affiliate tag describes how a product-link referral may be attributed.
Changing or removing an affiliate tag does not change any of the physical properties above.
What to Check Before Using a Tagged Link
Treat the product page as a starting point, not as proof of compatibility. Confirm that the listed product matches the target vehicle and the intended installation. Product listings can contain variations by size, finish, load rating, hardware, or seller, so check the specific item selected at checkout.
An affiliate tag may support the operation of a reference site if a qualifying purchase is made. It should not be interpreted as an endorsement that every linked item fits every vehicle. Always rely on verified wheel dimensions, vehicle specifications, and the manufacturer’s installation requirements.
