This is the WheelInterchange glossary for wheel fitment, wheel interchange, bolt patterns, wheel dimensions, hub dimensions, lug hardware, tire fitment, wheel adapters, spacers, and compatibility terminology. Entries are published gradually.
A
- Adapter Direction
Adapter direction describes the ordered bolt-pattern conversion from the vehicle-side PCD to the wheel-side PCD. For example, 6x135 → 6x139.7 means the adapter fits a 6x135 vehicle hub and accepts a 6x139.7 wheel.
- Adapter Required
“Adapter Required” means a donor wheel and target vehicle have different bolt patterns or PCDs, so a bolt-pattern adapter is needed to mount the wheel. The adapter must convert the target vehicle’s PCD to the donor wheel’s PCD and still provide safe clearance and load support.
- Adapter Thickness
Adapter thickness is the distance added between the vehicle hub and the wheel by a wheel adapter, normally stated in millimeters. It moves the wheel outward and changes the wheel’s effective offset while the adapter performs its intended bolt-pattern conversion.
- Affiliate Attribution
Affiliate attribution is the association of an outbound product click with the affiliate tag assigned to that product category. It helps identify which category or page generated a referral while keeping the fitment information separate from the commercial tracking.
- Affiliate Disclosure
An affiliate disclosure states that WheelInterchange.com may earn a commission from qualifying purchases made through some links. It explains the site's commercial relationship without changing the technical meaning of its wheel-fitment information.
- Affiliate Tag
An affiliate tag, also called an Amazon tag, is a tracking identifier appended to an outbound product link. It helps attribute a referred visit or qualifying purchase to the website that provided the link.
- Aggregate Query
An aggregate query summarizes multiple database records into useful totals or grouped results. For example, it can use COUNT and GROUP BY to show how many click events occurred for each page, wheel term, or date.
- Answer-First Fitment
Answer-First Fitment is a presentation style that states the core wheel-compatibility result before explaining the measurements, conditions, and limitations behind it. It helps readers quickly identify whether a wheel is a Direct Fit, needs an accessory, or is not directly compatible.
- Aspect Ratio
Aspect ratio is the tire sidewall height expressed as a percentage of the tire’s section width. Also called tire profile, it is shown as a number such as 45 in a 225/45R17 tire size.
B
- Backspacing
Backspacing is the distance from a wheel’s mounting surface to its inner edge or inner lip. It is usually expressed in inches or millimeters and helps determine how far the wheel extends inward toward the brakes and suspension.
- Barrel Clearance
Barrel clearance is the available space between the inside of a wheel’s barrel and nearby brake or suspension components. Adequate radial and lateral clearance is required for the wheel to rotate without contacting the vehicle.
- Body Style
Body style is the vehicle’s overall body configuration, such as sedan, coupe, wagon, SUV, or pickup. It helps identify the vehicle, but body style alone does not determine wheel compatibility.
- Bolt Pattern
A bolt pattern, also called PCD or lug pattern, identifies the number of wheel fasteners and the diameter of the circle passing through their centers. It is commonly written in a format such as 5x114.3.
- Bolt-Pattern Adapter
A bolt-pattern adapter, also called a PCD adapter, is a fitment part that converts the target vehicle’s bolt pattern to the bolt pattern of a donor wheel. It allows a wheel with a different PCD to be mounted, but it does not guarantee complete fitment.
- Brake Clearance
Brake clearance is the space between a wheel and the vehicle’s brake components, including the rotor, caliper, and related hardware. A wheel can match the bolt pattern and center bore yet still fail fitment if it does not provide enough brake clearance.

C
- Center Bore
Center bore, also called the wheel bore or center hole, is the diameter of the hole through the middle of a wheel. It is measured in millimeters and must be large enough to clear the vehicle’s hub.
- Clicked At
“Clicked At” is the date and time when a recorded product click occurred. Also called a click timestamp, it is an analytics field rather than a wheel-fitment measurement.
- Clicks Last 30 Days
“Clicks Last 30 Days” is the number of recorded product clicks during the most recent trailing 30-day period. It is a traffic metric, not a count of unique visitors, purchases, or confirmed wheel-fitment matches.
- Clicks Last 7 Days
Clicks Last 7 Days is the number of recorded clicks on product links during the most recent rolling seven-day period. It measures recent interaction volume, not unique users or completed purchases.
- Compare Rims
Compare Rims is a calculator section that compares two wheels or rim specifications to identify important mounting and geometry differences. It helps assess potential fitment between a donor wheel and a target vehicle, but it does not replace clearance and hardware checks.
- Compare Tires
Compare Tires is a calculator section that compares tire dimensions and related fitment measurements between tire sizes. It helps show how a proposed tire may differ in width, sidewall height, overall diameter, circumference, and revolutions per mile or kilometer.
- Control Arm Clearance
Control arm clearance is the available space between a wheel or tire and the vehicle’s suspension control arms. Adequate clearance is necessary to prevent rubbing during steering, suspension travel, and changes in vehicle load.
- Cross-Make Interchange
Cross-make interchange is the use of a wheel from one vehicle manufacturer on a vehicle from another manufacturer. Compatibility depends on the complete wheel and hub specifications–not on the manufacturer name alone.
- Crossover
A crossover, also called a CUV, is a utility vehicle generally built on passenger-car architecture. For wheel fitment, “crossover” describes the vehicle class, not a specific bolt pattern, center bore, or wheel size.
D
- Daily Click Aggregate
A Daily Click Aggregate is a day-level summary of product-click events grouped by dimensions such as source page, tag, product, or product type. It shows how many clicks were recorded for each grouping on a given date.
- Data Completeness
Data completeness is the extent to which all dimensions and fitment details needed for a wheel compatibility decision are present. Incomplete data may require a Check Fitment result instead of confirming a Direct Fit.
- Decision-First Page
A Decision-First Page presents the practical wheel-fitment result before detailed supporting information. It helps users quickly see whether a wheel is a Direct Fit, needs hub rings or a spacer, requires an adapter, or needs further checking.
- Dimension Comparison
Dimension comparison is a pairwise check between a donor measurement and the corresponding target measurement. It shows whether, and by how much, dimensions differ during wheel-fitment analysis.
- Dimension Match
Dimension Match means a wheel, tire, or fitment part matches the required numerical dimensions for a target vehicle or application. It is a dimensional comparison result, not by itself proof of complete or safe compatibility.
- Direct Fit
Direct Fit means a wheel can mount on the target vehicle without an adapter, hub ring, or spacer, based on the available fitment evidence. It is also called a direct mount, but it still requires the wheel’s full fitment to be correct.
- Donor Vehicle
A donor vehicle is the vehicle from which a wheel, tire package, or wheel specification originates. In wheel interchange, its dimensions are compared with those of the target vehicle to determine compatibility.
F
- Factory Wheel Package
A factory wheel package is a specific original-equipment wheel-and-tire combination supplied with a particular vehicle configuration. It may include the wheel diameter, wheel width, offset, tire size, bolt pattern, center bore, and related hardware used for that configuration.
- Fitment Checklist
A wheel fitment checklist is a structured list of measurements and compatibility checks used before purchasing or installing wheels. It helps compare a donor wheel with a target vehicle and identify whether the result is a Direct Fit, needs additional parts, or should not be used.
- Fitment Constraint
A fitment constraint is any measurement, clearance requirement, or mechanical condition that can limit whether a wheel can be installed safely on a vehicle. Common constraints include bolt pattern, center bore, wheel width, offset, brake clearance, and lug hardware.
- Fitment Dataset
A fitment dataset is a structured collection of vehicle fitment records used to evaluate whether wheels, tires, and related hardware are compatible with a target vehicle. It may contain dimensions such as bolt pattern, center bore, wheel size, width, and offset.
- Fitment Product
A fitment product is a wheel, tire, or accessory intended to resolve or support a specific wheel-fitment requirement. Examples include hub-centric rings, wheel spacers, bolt-pattern adapters, and compatible lug hardware.
- Fits With Spacer
“Fits With Spacer” is a wheel-fitment outcome meaning a wheel can be used on the target vehicle with a correctly selected spacer to achieve the required clearance or positioning. It does not mean that any spacer will make the wheel compatible.
- Flat Seat
A flat seat is a wheel lug-seat design with a flat clamping surface, commonly used with a washer or shank-style lug nut. It is also often called a mag seat.
- Front Wheel Specification
A front wheel specification is the wheel size and fitment specification assigned to the vehicle’s front axle. It is especially important on vehicles with staggered or axle-specific wheel setups, where the front and rear wheels use different dimensions.
G
- Generic Match
A Generic Match is a lower-confidence wheel or product match based mainly on broad category compatibility rather than complete dimensional verification. It indicates possible relevance, not confirmed fitment.
H
- Hard Fitment Blocker
A hard fitment blocker is a wheel-to-vehicle incompatibility that prevents the wheel from mounting directly and safely without a specific conversion or modification. Common examples include incompatible bolt patterns and a wheel center bore smaller than the vehicle hub.
- Hatchback
A hatchback is a passenger car with a rear liftgate that opens upward to provide access to the cargo area. For wheel fitment, “hatchback” describes the vehicle body style, not a complete set of wheel specifications.
- Hub Pilot
A hub pilot is the raised circular section of a vehicle’s wheel hub that fits inside a wheel’s center bore to help center the wheel. Its diameter must be compatible with the wheel bore for a hub-centric fit.
- Hub Ring Product
A hub ring product is a centering ring sized by its outer diameter and inner diameter. It fills the gap between a wheel's larger center bore and a smaller vehicle hub to provide a more hub-centric fit.
- Hub-Centric
Hub-centric describes a wheel-mounting design in which the vehicle’s hub pilot centers the wheel through the wheel’s center bore. This can improve mounting accuracy, but it does not by itself confirm complete wheel compatibility.
- Hub-Centric Ring
A hub-centric ring, also called a hub ring or spigot ring, fits inside a wheel’s larger center bore to match the smaller hub pilot on the vehicle. It helps center the wheel on the hub during installation and operation.
I
- Inner Position Change
Inner position change is the difference, in millimeters, between a new wheel’s inner edge position and that of a reference wheel. It indicates whether the new wheel extends farther inward toward the suspension, brakes, or inner fender.
- Installed On
“Installed On” identifies the target vehicle selected for a wheel or tire comparison. It describes where the wheel or tire is intended to be fitted, not necessarily what is physically installed on the vehicle now.
- Interchange Candidate
An interchange candidate is a donor vehicle or wheel being considered as a possible fit for a target vehicle. It is a preliminary fitment possibility, not proof that the wheel can be installed safely without additional checks or hardware.
- Interchangeability
Wheel interchangeability is the degree to which a wheel or wheel-and-tire assembly can be moved from a donor vehicle to a target vehicle without unacceptable fitment or safety problems. It depends on more than matching the bolt pattern.
- Internal Link
An internal link is a hyperlink that connects one WheelInterchange.com page to another page on the same site. It helps readers move between related wheel fitment, measurement, and compatibility topics.
K
- Known OEM Fitment
Known OEM Fitment refers to structured records of original-equipment wheel or tire specifications documented for a particular vehicle. These records provide a reference point for fitment calculations but do not, by themselves, prove that another wheel or tire is compatible.
L
- Live Reclassification
Live reclassification is the process of reevaluating a precomputed wheel-fitment candidate using the current fitment rules when a page is rendered. It helps ensure the displayed outcome reflects updated compatibility logic rather than an outdated stored classification.
- Load Range
Load range is a tire construction and load-capacity classification, most commonly used for light-truck tires. Ratings such as C, D, and E indicate the tire’s intended load capability when used at the specified inflation pressure.
- Lug Thread
Lug thread is the thread diameter and pitch used by a wheel stud, wheel bolt, or lug nut. It is commonly expressed as a metric size such as M14x1.5, where the first number is diameter and the second is thread pitch.
M
- Model Page
A Model Page is a reference page that groups model years belonging to one vehicle model. In wheel fitment research, it provides an organized starting point for comparing bolt pattern, center bore, wheel size, offset, and other specifications.
N
- Negative Offset
Negative offset is a wheel geometry condition in which the hub mounting surface sits toward the inner side of the wheel relative to its centerline. It is expressed in millimeters, such as -10 mm, and is also called negative ET.
- Nofollow
Nofollow is a link relationship indicating that a hyperlink should not pass normal ranking signals. It is commonly written as `rel="nofollow"` and is a signal to search engines rather than an absolute block on crawling.
- Noindex
Noindex is a directive telling search engines not to include a page or endpoint in their search index. It is commonly used for utility pages, internal tools, filtered results, and other URLs that are useful to visitors but not intended as standalone search results.
- Not Directly Compatible
Not Directly Compatible means a wheel cannot be mounted safely to the target vehicle as-is because a hard fitment problem prevents direct installation. A major modification or a properly supported adapter solution would be needed, if one exists.
O
- OEM Midpoint
An OEM midpoint is a representative value calculated from an original-equipment wheel fitment range, usually for approximate geometry comparison. It is a reference value, not necessarily an actual factory wheel specification.
- OEM Wheel Envelope
An OEM wheel envelope is the known range of factory wheel diameters, widths, offsets, and mounting dimensions associated with a vehicle or vehicle configuration. It provides evidence for evaluating wheel compatibility, but it does not guarantee that every wheel within the range will clear the brakes or fit without additional hardware.
- Offset Range
An offset range is the interval of wheel offsets, expressed in millimeters, known to be used or supported for a particular vehicle or fitment. It describes more than one acceptable offset rather than a single required specification.
- Open Redirect
An open redirect is a web application vulnerability that lets an attacker supply a destination URL and make the application redirect users there. It is commonly used to disguise phishing links or bypass trust in a legitimate domain.
P
- PCD
PCD, or Pitch Circle Diameter, is the diameter in millimeters of the imaginary circle passing through the centers of a wheel’s fastener holes. It is commonly written as the number of fasteners × the circle diameter, such as 5×114.3.
- Pickup Truck
A pickup truck is a vehicle with an open cargo bed and a truck-oriented chassis or body structure. For wheel fitment, pickups can require different checks than passenger cars because their axle loads, brake clearance, suspension design, and wheel hardware vary widely.
- Plus Sizing
Plus sizing means increasing wheel diameter while choosing a lower-profile tire so the tire’s overall diameter remains close to the original. It can change handling and appearance, but requires careful checks for clearance, load capacity, and fitment.
- Precomputed Interchange
Precomputed interchange is wheel-compatibility information calculated in advance and stored so it can be retrieved quickly. It may connect a donor vehicle or wheel to a target vehicle using known fitment data and compatibility rules.
- Product Click Analytics
Product click analytics is aggregated reporting of commerce-link clicks, organized by date, source page, affiliate tag, product, and click type. On a wheel-fitment site, it shows which products and pages attract shopping interest, but it does not prove that a product fits a vehicle.
- Product Click Count
Product Click Count is the integer number of tracked product-click events recorded for a defined aggregation group. It measures click activity, not necessarily unique users, purchases, or confirmed wheel compatibility.
- Product Click Table
A Product Click Table is a database table that stores raw events generated when users click product links or listings. It is used for analytics, reporting, and attribution rather than determining wheel fitment.
- Product Inventory
Product inventory is the stored catalog of wheels, tires, adapters, hub rings, spacers, and related fitment products available for matching. It contains the product specifications used to compare an item with a target vehicle.
- Product Type
Product Type identifies what kind of wheel-fitment product is being described, such as a lug nut, hub ring, spacer, or bolt-pattern adapter. It describes the product category, not whether the item fits a particular vehicle or wheel.
R
- Radial Clearance
Radial clearance is the available space measured outward from the wheel or hub centerline. In wheel fitment, it is especially important for checking the gap between the brake assembly and the wheel’s inner barrel or other internal surfaces.
- Redirect Validation
Redirect validation checks that a redirect target belongs to approved product inventory rather than coming from arbitrary user input. It helps keep wheel, tire, and fitment links pointed to known, valid destinations.
- Reference Wheel
A reference wheel is the wheel specification used as a baseline for comparing another wheel’s geometry and fitment. Its diameter, width, offset, center bore, and other dimensions help show how a replacement wheel may change clearance or position.
- Required Part
A required part is an additional component needed to resolve a known wheel-fitment condition. Depending on the issue, it may be a hub-centric ring, spacer, bolt-pattern adapter, or correct lug hardware.
- Required Part From
Required Part From is the source-side dimension of a wheel-fitment conversion or reduction. It identifies the original size, pattern, or interface that the required part must accept before changing to the specified “to” dimension.
S
- Same-Model Year Chips
Same-model year chips are compact links or labels in a wheel-fitment calculator that show other years of the same vehicle model and their compatibility status. They provide a quick navigation and comparison aid, not a guarantee that every wheel fits every year.
- Sedan
A sedan is a passenger car body style with a fixed roof, an enclosed passenger cabin, and a separate trunk. In wheel fitment, “sedan” describes the vehicle’s body style, not its bolt pattern or complete wheel compatibility.
- Server-Rendered HTML
Server-rendered HTML is web page content produced by the server and sent to the browser as usable HTML, without requiring client-side JavaScript to display the main information. On a wheel-fitment site, this can include vehicle specifications, wheel dimensions, and compatibility results.
- Sidewall Height
Tire sidewall height is the approximate distance from the wheel rim bead seat to the tread, expressed in millimeters. It is calculated from the tire’s section width and aspect ratio.
- Slip-On Spacer
A slip-on spacer is a thin ring that slides over a vehicle’s existing wheel studs before the wheel is installed. It moves the wheel outward to provide additional clearance, but it does not change the bolt pattern.
- Spoke Clearance
Spoke clearance is the available space between the inner faces of a wheel’s spokes and nearby brake components, especially the caliper. Adequate clearance is required to prevent contact when the wheel is mounted and the vehicle is driven.

- Target Vehicle
The target vehicle is the vehicle on which a donor wheel is intended to be installed. It is also called the installed-on vehicle or recipient vehicle.
- Tire Package Fitment
Tire package fitment is the compatibility of a complete wheel-and-tire assembly with a vehicle, rather than compatibility of the bare wheel alone. It includes wheel dimensions, tire size, clearance, load capacity, hardware, and the vehicle’s operating requirements.
- Tire Pressure
Tire pressure, also called inflation pressure, is the amount of air pressure inside a tire. It is normally expressed in PSI, bar, or kPa and should be set according to the vehicle and tire specification.
- Tire Radius
Tire radius is half of a tire’s overall diameter, expressed in inches or millimeters. It helps describe the tire’s size and can be used to estimate ground clearance, gearing effects, and speedometer changes.
- Tire Rub
Tire rub is physical contact between the tire and the vehicle body, wheel-well liner, suspension, brake components, or another nearby part. It commonly occurs during steering, suspension compression, or when a different wheel and tire package changes the available clearance.
- Tire Size
Tire size is a standardized designation that describes a tire’s section width, aspect ratio, internal construction, and the wheel diameter it fits. A marking such as 275/65R18 provides key dimensions for evaluating tire and wheel fitment.
V
- Vehicle Configuration
A vehicle configuration is the specific combination of model, year, drivetrain, engine, trim, brakes, and other equipment that defines a vehicle’s fitment requirements. Two vehicles with the same model name may require different wheels if their configurations differ.
- Vehicle Make
A vehicle make is the manufacturer or brand that produced a vehicle, such as a particular automaker. In wheel fitment, the make helps identify the vehicle, but it does not by itself determine whether a wheel will fit.
- Vehicle Platform
A vehicle platform is the underlying architecture shared by one or more vehicle models. In wheel fitment, it can provide a useful starting point for comparing vehicles, but it does not by itself guarantee compatible wheels.
- Vehicle-Specific Match
A vehicle-specific match is a wheel or fitment result explicitly associated with the target vehicle. It indicates that the product has been identified for that vehicle, but the listed match should still be checked for configuration, hardware, and clearance details.
W
- Wagon
A wagon, also called an estate, is a passenger car with an extended roof and a rear cargo area behind the rear seats. For wheel fitment, the wagon body style helps identify the vehicle configuration but does not by itself determine wheel compatibility.
- Wheel
A wheel is the rigid circular component that mounts to a vehicle hub and supports the tire. It is also commonly called a rim, although “wheel” more precisely refers to the complete structural component with its mounting and tire-seating surfaces.
- Wheel Adapter
A wheel adapter, also called a bolt-pattern adapter, is a component that changes the wheel-side mounting interface so a wheel with a different bolt pattern or PCD can be mounted to a vehicle hub. It can make an otherwise incompatible wheel usable, but it adds thickness and requires careful checking of hardware, clearance, and load suitability.
- Wheel Adapter Product
A wheel adapter product is a directional component that converts a target vehicle’s bolt pattern (PCD) to the bolt pattern of a donor wheel. It must be matched to both the vehicle-side PCD and the donor-wheel PCD, along with the required hub, hardware, clearance, and load specifications.
- Wheel Centerline
Wheel centerline is the reference plane halfway between the inner and outer bead-seat positions of a wheel. Wheel offset is measured from this plane to the wheel’s mounting face.
- Wheel Compatibility Decision
A wheel compatibility decision is the final fitment outcome reached after comparing a wheel with a target vehicle’s mounting dimensions, geometry, hardware, clearances, and available evidence.
- Wheel Diameter Range
Wheel diameter range is the set of wheel diameters, usually expressed in inches, known to be supported by a vehicle. It indicates possible rim sizes but does not by itself confirm complete wheel or tire compatibility.
- Wheel Face
The wheel face is the visible front structure of a wheel, including its spokes, center section, and areas around the lug holes. Its design is mainly visual, but its shape can also affect brake clearance, lug access, and overall wheel fitment.
- Wheel Fitment
Wheel fitment is the dimensional and mechanical compatibility between a wheel and a vehicle’s hub, suspension, brakes, body, and tire package. It is also called wheel compatibility or rim fitment.
- Wheel Fitment Parts
Wheel Fitment Parts are the lug hardware, hub rings, spacers, adapters, and similar components listed for a vehicle-level wheel fitment. They indicate what may be needed to install a wheel safely when the wheel and vehicle do not match directly in every dimension.
- Wheel Geometry
Wheel geometry is the combined spatial effect of a wheel’s width, offset, diameter, and mounting position. It determines where the wheel and tire sit relative to the hub, suspension, brakes, and fenders.
- Wheel Offset
Wheel offset is the distance in millimeters between a wheel’s centerline and its hub mounting surface. It determines how far the wheel sits inward or outward relative to the vehicle hub and is commonly marked as ET.
- Wheel Size
Wheel size is a compact specification that states a wheel’s diameter and width, usually written in inches as diameter × width, such as 18x8.5. It is also commonly called rim size.
- Wheel Spacer
A wheel spacer is a plate or ring fitted between the vehicle hub and wheel to move the wheel outward. It changes the wheel’s effective offset and clearance position, but it does not change the wheel’s bolt pattern or PCD.
- Wheel Spacer Product
A wheel spacer product is a spacer specified by dimensions such as bolt pattern (PCD), hub bore, and thickness so it can be evaluated for a particular vehicle and wheel combination. Depending on its design, it may move the wheel outward or require additional hardware, but a normal spacer does not change the vehicle's bolt pattern.
- Wheel Stud
A wheel stud is a threaded fastener fixed to the vehicle hub. The wheel is placed over the protruding stud, and a compatible lug nut is tightened onto it to secure the wheel.
- Wheel Width Range
A wheel width range is the interval of wheel widths, expressed in inches, that a vehicle or its approved tire package is designed to support. It helps identify suitable wheel sizes but does not prove complete compatibility by itself.
- Wheels From
“Wheels From” identifies the donor vehicle–the vehicle selected as the source of the wheels being compared with a target vehicle. Its wheel specifications are evaluated against the target vehicle’s fitment requirements.
- Width Delta
Width delta is the numerical difference between a donor wheel’s width and a reference wheel’s width, usually expressed in inches or millimeters. It shows how much wider or narrower one wheel is, but it does not by itself determine fitment or clearance.
Z
- Zero Offset
Zero offset, also called ET0, means the wheel’s hub mounting surface is exactly aligned with its centerline. It is expressed as 0 mm and places the wheel’s mounting pad midway between its inner and outer sides.
