Vehicle Lookup: Find Wheel Specifications by Make, Model, and Year

A vehicle lookup is a make-model-year selection tool used to locate a vehicle’s wheel specifications, such as bolt pattern, center bore, diameter, width, and offset. It provides a starting point for fitment research but does not by itself guarantee compatibility.

What Is Vehicle Lookup?

A vehicle lookup is an interface that lets you select a vehicle by make, model, and year to find its wheel and fitment specifications. Depending on the database, the results may include the original wheel’s bolt pattern / PCD, center bore, wheel diameter, wheel width, offset, lug hardware information, and tire details.

On a wheel interchange site, the selected vehicle is usually the target vehicle–the vehicle that will receive a replacement or donor wheel. The lookup helps establish the target vehicle’s basic requirements before comparing those requirements with a wheel from another vehicle.

How Vehicle Lookup Is Used for Wheel Fitment

A typical lookup process is:

  1. Select the vehicle make.
  2. Select the model.
  3. Select the model year or production configuration.
  4. Review the available wheel specifications.
  5. Compare those specifications with the proposed wheel or donor vehicle.

For example, the results may show that a target vehicle requires a particular bolt pattern, center bore, wheel width range, and offset range. A donor wheel can then be checked against each of those dimensions rather than being judged by appearance or by bolt count alone.

The lookup may support a preliminary fitment outcome such as Direct Fit, Fits With Hub Rings, Fits With Spacer, Adapter Required, Check Fitment, or Not Directly Compatible. The result depends on the accuracy and completeness of the data and on the physical condition and design of the actual wheel.

Why Vehicle Lookup Matters

Vehicle specifications are easy to confuse, especially when the same model name is offered in different years, trims, drivetrains, brake packages, or production configurations. Selecting only a make and model may not identify the correct wheel specifications.

A lookup helps organize the key measurements:

  • Bolt pattern / PCD: The number of mounting holes and the diameter of the bolt circle.
  • Center bore: The diameter of the wheel’s center opening and the vehicle hub interface.
  • Wheel diameter and width: The wheel’s basic size, expressed in inches.
  • Offset: The position of the wheel mounting face relative to the wheel centerline, expressed in millimeters.

These specifications must be considered together. The same PCD alone does not prove that a wheel fits. Brake clearance, suspension clearance, wheel spoke geometry, lug hardware, center bore, offset, width, and tire size can all affect the result.

Common Vehicle Lookup Mistakes

Choosing the wrong year or configuration is one of the most common errors. A nearby model year may use different wheels, or one configuration may have a different brake package from another.

Treating lookup data as a fitment guarantee is another mistake. A database generally describes a vehicle’s expected specifications; it cannot inspect the exact aftermarket wheel, account for every manufacturing variation, or confirm spoke-to-brake clearance.

Assuming matching bolt patterns are enough can also lead to an incorrect purchase. A wheel may share the target vehicle’s PCD but have an incompatible center bore, unsuitable offset, incorrect lug-seat design, or insufficient brake clearance.

Ignoring the actual wheel markings is risky when buying used wheels. Compare the lookup results with markings or measurements on the wheel itself, including diameter, width, offset, center bore, and bolt pattern where available.

What to Check After a Lookup

Use the lookup result as the target vehicle’s reference specification, then verify the proposed wheel directly. Confirm the bolt pattern, center bore, diameter, width, offset, and lug hardware. If the wheel bore is larger than the vehicle hub, a correctly sized hub-centric ring may address the centering interface; a ring cannot make a wheel with a smaller bore fit over a larger hub. A normal spacer moves the wheel outward but does not change its bolt pattern.

For uncertain combinations, the appropriate result is Check Fitment rather than an assumed Direct Fit. A physical test fit or manufacturer dimensional information may still be necessary, particularly when wheel width, offset, brakes, or aftermarket suspension components are involved.
