  2. Center bore – A wheel bore larger than the vehicle hub may be usable with a correctly sized hub-centric ring. A bore smaller than the hub cannot be made to fit with a ring.

  • Assuming a larger center bore is automatically unsafe or that a smaller bore can be corrected with a hub ring.
  • Selecting a wheel based only on diameter without checking width, tire fitment, brakes, and vehicle clearance.

A crossover is therefore a useful description of vehicle architecture and intended use, but the specific hub and wheel measurements determine whether a wheel interchange is safe and suitable.
