A fitment guide is a reference that explains wheel compatibility for a specific vehicle or vehicle configuration. It helps compare a wheel from a donor vehicle with the requirements of the target vehicle, including bolt pattern / PCD, center bore, wheel diameter, wheel width, offset, brake clearance, suspension clearance, and lug hardware.

A fitment guide is more than a simple list of vehicles that use the same wheel. A shared bolt pattern is only one part of compatibility. The wheel must also mount correctly, clear the vehicle, and work with the intended tire and hardware package.

What a Fitment Guide Covers

A useful guide may include:

  • Bolt pattern / PCD: The number of fasteners and the diameter of the bolt circle. The donor wheel and target vehicle must use compatible patterns unless a suitable adapter is part of the installation.
  • Center bore: The diameter of the hole in the back of the wheel and the vehicle’s hub diameter. A larger wheel center bore may be reduced with a correctly sized hub-centric ring; a smaller bore cannot fit over a larger vehicle hub.
  • Wheel diameter and width: These affect tire selection, available clearance, and the overall wheel-and-tire package.
  • Offset: The wheel’s mounting-face position relative to its centerline. Offset changes how far the wheel sits inward or outward, but its effect depends on wheel width as well as the vehicle.
  • Brake and suspension clearance: Spokes, the inner barrel, and the wheel’s overall geometry may interfere with brake components or suspension parts even when the basic dimensions appear to match.
  • Lug hardware: Seat type, thread compatibility, shank dimensions, and required engagement can determine whether the wheel can be safely secured.
  • Tire fitment: A wheel may mount successfully but still require a different tire size or create clearance, load, or speed-rating concerns.

The amount of information varies by guide. If a dimension or vehicle configuration has not been verified, the result should be treated as Check Fitment rather than as proof of compatibility.

How Fitment Results Are Expressed

  • Direct Fit: The available dimensions and mounting requirements indicate that the wheel should mount without an adapter or spacer, subject to normal clearance and hardware checks.
  • Direct Fit – Hardware Note: The wheel appears dimensionally compatible, but lug nuts, bolts, or another mounting detail needs confirmation.
  • Fits With Hub Rings: The wheel’s center bore is larger than the vehicle hub, and a properly sized ring can improve hub-centric location. Hub rings do not correct a mismatched bolt pattern or a wheel bore that is too small.
  • Fits With Spacer: A spacer may provide additional clearance or change wheel position. A normal spacer does not change the bolt pattern.
  • Adapter Required: A bolt-pattern adapter or another specifically identified conversion component is needed. Adapter direction matters: it must convert the target vehicle’s mounting pattern to the wheel’s pattern.
  • Check Fitment: Available information is incomplete or another measurement, clearance check, or vehicle configuration must be confirmed.
  • Not Directly Compatible: The wheel cannot be installed as a direct-fit part under the stated conditions.

These labels describe the mounting relationship, not a universal guarantee that every tire, brake package, or vehicle modification will work.

How to Read a Fitment Guide

Start by identifying the target vehicle, because model year, trim, brake package, drivetrain, and other configuration differences can affect fitment. Then identify the donor wheel and compare its actual specifications rather than relying only on the vehicle it came from.

A sensible review order is:

  1. Confirm the bolt pattern / PCD.
  2. Compare the wheel center bore with the vehicle hub.
  3. Compare wheel diameter, width, and offset.
  4. Check brake, suspension, fender, and inner-wheel clearance.
  5. Confirm the tire size and load requirements.
  6. Verify lug hardware and tightening requirements.
  7. Review whether the result is Direct Fit, requires rings or a spacer, needs an adapter, or should be checked further.

For example, a wheel with a 67.1 mm center bore on a vehicle with a 64.1 mm hub may use a 67.1 → 64.1 mm hub-centric ring, provided the bolt pattern, offset, clearance, and hardware are also suitable. By contrast, a 6x135 wheel and a 6x139.7 hub do not share the same bolt pattern; a normal spacer does not solve that difference.

Common Fitment Guide Mistakes

  • Treating the same bolt pattern as proof of complete compatibility.
  • Assuming a hub ring can make an undersized wheel bore fit over a larger hub.
  • Confusing a spacer with a bolt-pattern adapter.
  • Comparing offset without considering wheel width.

  • Assuming a wheel from one vehicle configuration fits every version of that vehicle.
  • Using generic lug hardware without confirming the wheel’s required seat and thread details.
  • Treating a guide as a substitute for measuring a used or modified wheel and vehicle.

A fitment guide is most useful as a structured compatibility assessment. It narrows the possibilities and explains the conditions of a match, but final installation should still be verified against the actual wheel, vehicle, hardware, tire package, and available clearance.
