Known OEM Fitment refers to structured records of original-equipment wheel or tire specifications documented for a particular vehicle. These records provide a reference point for fitment calculations but do not, by themselves, prove that another wheel or tire is compatible.

What Is Known OEM Fitment?

Known OEM Fitment is a structured record of original-equipment (OEM) wheel or tire fitment information associated with a vehicle. In a wheel-interchange calculator, these records act as a reference for the sizes and specifications known to have been used on the target vehicle.

An OEM fitment record may include information such as wheel diameter, wheel width, offset, bolt pattern / PCD, center bore, tire size, and vehicle configuration. The exact fields depend on the source data available for that vehicle.

How Known OEM Fitment Is Used

Known OEM Fitment records help establish the target vehicle's baseline dimensions. A calculator can compare those dimensions with a proposed replacement wheel, a tire package, or a wheel from a donor vehicle.

For example, an OEM record can help identify:

  • The vehicle's original wheel diameter and width
  • The original wheel offset or offset range
  • The bolt pattern / PCD used by the vehicle
  • The hub or center-bore reference
  • Tire sizes associated with a particular OEM wheel package
  • Differences between vehicle configurations or equipment levels, when those records are available

This information supports fitment outcomes such as Direct Fit, Direct Fit – Hardware Note, Fits With Hub Rings, Fits With Spacer, Adapter Required, Check Fitment, or Not Directly Compatible. The outcome depends on the complete comparison, not simply on whether a wheel size appears in an OEM record.

Why It Matters for Wheel Fitment

Known OEM Fitment is useful because vehicle fitment can vary by model configuration, production year, brake package, suspension setup, and factory wheel option. A single generic wheel specification may not represent every version of a vehicle.

An OEM record can also prevent common comparison errors. For example, matching wheel diameter alone does not establish compatibility. The proposed wheel must also be checked for bolt pattern / PCD, center bore, offset, width, brake clearance, suspension clearance, tire size, and suitable lug hardware.

The same principle applies to tires. An OEM tire size is a documented reference, but changing wheel width, diameter, or offset can affect the appropriate tire package and available clearance.

Known OEM Fitment Is Not a Compatibility Guarantee

A record marked as Known OEM Fitment means that the wheel or tire specification is documented as an original-equipment fitment reference. It does not mean that every wheel with one matching dimension will fit, or that every aftermarket replacement with the same nominal size has the same geometry.

For example:

  • The same bolt pattern / PCD does not prove complete wheel compatibility.
  • A wheel can have the correct PCD but an incompatible center bore, offset, brake profile, or lug-seat design.
  • A tire can match an OEM diameter while having an unsuitable width or load rating for the intended application.
  • OEM records may describe more than one approved wheel or tire package for the same vehicle.

If the available record is incomplete or the proposed wheel falls outside the documented configuration, the appropriate result may be Check Fitment rather than a definite direct-fit classification.

Known OEM Fitment vs. Aftermarket Fitment

Known OEM Fitment describes documented original-equipment specifications. It is different from an aftermarket fitment result, which evaluates whether a particular replacement wheel can be installed on the target vehicle.

An aftermarket wheel may require additional hardware or components even when its basic dimensions appear close to an OEM record. A larger wheel center bore may be corrected with hub-centric rings when the ring dimensions are suitable. A smaller wheel center bore cannot be made to fit over a larger vehicle hub with a ring. Likewise, a normal spacer moves a wheel outward but does not change its bolt pattern / PCD.

What to Check Before Relying on an OEM Record

Before using a Known OEM Fitment record as the basis for a wheel purchase or interchange decision, verify:

  • The exact target vehicle configuration represented by the record
  • Wheel diameter, wheel width, and offset
  • Bolt pattern / PCD
  • Center bore and hub fit
  • Brake and suspension clearance
  • Lug-bolt or lug-nut requirements
  • Tire size, load rating, and clearance
  • Whether the proposed wheel is OEM, aftermarket, or modified

Known OEM Fitment is therefore best understood as a documented starting point for a fitment calculation–not as a substitute for checking the complete wheel and tire geometry.
