Confirm the conversion direction
A 5x114.3 to 5x112 wheel adapter has two different bolt patterns, one on each face:
- Vehicle side: 5x114.3, to attach to the vehicle’s hub
- Wheel side: 5x112, to attach the wheel to the adapter
The first number is the number of mounting positions; the second is the pitch-circle diameter (PCD) in millimeters. Both patterns use five fasteners, but their hole spacing differs, so a 5x112 wheel does not directly fit a 5x114.3 hub.
Check the adapter’s stated direction before buying. Listings may describe the same conversion in either order, so confirm which pattern is for the vehicle and which is for the wheel. An adapter is not reversible unless its specifications explicitly show the required pattern on each face.
Match the vehicle-side PCD
Verify that the vehicle’s actual hub pattern is 5x114.3. Do not rely only on a model-year search result: fitment can vary by trim, market, or previous modifications. Check reliable vehicle documentation or have the hub measured if there is any uncertainty.
The adapter must also suit the hub’s mounting arrangement. Confirm that it sits flat against the hub face, clears any locating features, and is designed for the vehicle’s fastener type. The PCD alone does not establish compatibility.
Match the wheel-side PCD
Confirm that the wheel is actually 5x112 and that the adapter’s wheel face is also 5x112. Check the wheel’s required lug-seat style–such as conical, ball, or another specified seat–and use hardware that matches it. A nut or bolt that threads on but has the wrong seat may not clamp the wheel correctly.
Also verify that the wheel is rated and otherwise suitable for the vehicle. The adapter changes the mounting interface; it does not resolve an unsuitable wheel load rating, brake clearance, or other fitment issue.
Check both center-bore interfaces
There are two separate center-bore checks:
- Hub to adapter: The adapter’s inner bore must clear the vehicle’s hub pilot. If the adapter is intended to locate on that pilot, its bore and locating shoulder must match the hub.
- Adapter to wheel: The adapter’s outer locating lip, if present, must fit the wheel’s center bore. The wheel must seat fully against the adapter face without the lip bottoming out or interfering with the wheel’s center-bore shape.
A correct PCD does not guarantee a correct center bore. If the wheel or adapter is not hub-centric, confirm how the assembly is intended to be centered; do not assume that the lug fasteners will correct a mismatched locating interface. Avoid forcing parts together or using a spacer ring to address a mismatch unless the adapter and wheel manufacturers specify that arrangement.
Choose thickness and recalculate effective offset
Adapter thickness moves the wheel outward. To estimate the resulting position, use:
Effective offset ≈ wheel offset − adapter thickness
Use the same units for both values, usually millimeters. For example, a wheel with an offset of +45 mm used with a 20 mm adapter has an approximate effective offset of +25 mm. This is a calculation, not a fitment approval: the result still needs to be checked against the vehicle’s clearance and fitment limits.
Because the wheel moves outward, an adapter can reduce clearance to the fender and change the wheel’s position relative to the suspension and steering components. If adapters are fitted on both sides of an axle, the track width increases by approximately twice the adapter thickness. Check the proposed thickness against the wheel offset, tire dimensions, suspension setup, and available clearance through steering and suspension movement. Do not select thickness solely to make the bolt pattern work.
Match studs, threads, and outer clearance
Confirm the fastening hardware on both interfaces:
- The vehicle-side hardware must match the vehicle’s thread diameter, pitch, and specified seat. Check whether the adapter uses the vehicle’s existing studs or requires supplied fasteners.
- The wheel-side studs or bolts and nuts must match the wheel’s thread and lug-seat requirements.
- Check fastener length, engagement, and clearance. Long vehicle studs may contact the back of the wheel if it has no adequate recesses; wheel-side nuts must not bottom out before clamping the wheel.
Finally, check physical clearance around the entire assembly. The adapter must clear brake components and nearby hub features, and the wheel must clear the adapter’s hardware, brakes, suspension, and bodywork. Confirm that the wheel seats flush and that no fastener or locating lip prevents full contact.
Before ordering
- Vehicle hub pattern is confirmed as 5x114.3.
- Wheel pattern is confirmed as 5x112.
- Adapter is specified vehicle-side 5x114.3 and wheel-side 5x112.
- Both center-bore interfaces and locating features are accounted for.
- Adapter thickness has been included in the effective-offset check.
- Thread, pitch, seat type, fastener length, and engagement match both interfaces.
- Brake, suspension, wheel, and fender clearances have been checked.
Use the adapter manufacturer’s installation and torque instructions, and have the completed fitment inspected if any interface or clearance is uncertain.
